Komatsu Cummins is advancing its global training strategy through a unified platform that combines a refreshed visual identity with advanced customisation. In partnership with DL, the company is consolidating Totara competency models and established training programmes to create a strong foundation for continuous employee development.

The challenge
Komatsu Cummins aimed to optimise and modernise its learning systems while maintaining the high standards of training already established across the organisation. One of the main priorities was the unification of platforms for both corporate and technical training, bringing together Komatsu and Cummins under a single, coherent learning environment.
Another major task involved the migration of 37,000 records and 20 courses into a productive environment. This process required careful planning to ensure that data integrity and accessibility were maintained throughout the transition, enabling a smooth experience for all users.
The company also wanted to develop a new and visually enhanced design that complemented existing competency models and training programmes. This fresh appearance would not only modernise the platform’s presentation but also align with Komatsu Cummins’ established approach to skills development and learning effectiveness.
In addition, Komatsu Cummins sought to create customised dashboards suited to a wide range of employee profiles. Each user would need access to relevant training data and performance insights, making it easier to track progress and align learning goals with role-specific competencies.
Finally, to strengthen usability and security, the organisation required single sign-on (SSO) integration via Active Directory. This would simplify access for employees worldwide, ensuring that all users could enter the system easily and securely.
The solution
DL is delivering a solution that combines modernisation with reliability, creating a system that strengthens Komatsu Cummins’ established training foundation while introducing new design and functionality enhancements. The project brings together multiple components that work cohesively to unify platforms, streamline learning processes, and improve the overall training experience across the organisation.

Employees across the organisation can now access their training information in a clear, structured way, regardless of their prior experience with digital platforms.

Accuracy and Clarity in Information
Improved visual organisation and clearer presentation of data make learning materials easier to understand and retain. Customised dashboards display progress and objectives clearly, while the consolidation of competency models enables full traceability of employee development through a consistent and transparent interface.

Enriched Learning Experience
The new platform design offers a more engaging and consistent user experience. Visual uniformity across modules ensures a cohesive environment, while the continued use of Totara’s competency models and established programmes supports an effective and user-friendly approach to learning.
